TED - Don Norman on 3 ways good design makes you happy (Link)
Watch Don Norman and learn about his theory of emotions as related to Design and Creativity.

1. Think about the role of emotions/mindset in the creative process. Remember the example he cited. Recall any brainstorming sessions you conducted before (as well as the in-class exercise earlier) - were the sessions conducted effectively? Why/not?
This lecture which was conducted by Norman is indeed an interesting and attracting/eye catching way. It kinds of brings everybody attention and focus on him, and he was able to explain and recite yet stumble on the subject course of living. Design does creates a great atmosphere which honestly no one can resist. It is kind of a seduction. Although, in certain times where things doesn't go our way, design draft is not what you wanted or ideas are not able to process properly, but eventually when design is completed and design is satisfied. happiness is once again roses. I remembered that there was once when i was brainstorming about a certain product in my previously institute, where it was frustrating when no ideas follows. But after times of practice and getting used to, it helps and improve the process. The outcome was produce, happiness is once again achieved by both designers and consumers.

I totally agree with what Norman commented, that majority people buy items/products for the interesting designs, fun and happy concept which all links to one common factor, FUN.
As everyone enjoys a laugh and like to be incontrol, and nobody enjoys feeling negative and not having control with what they have(lost touch). That would be one of the main purpose why consumers like buying attractive and products that attracts attention.

Another topic that he mention was when everyone in a group was brainstorming about a certain idea and couldn't solve it, until someone with sweets asked if anyone of them wanted and so the attention and pressure at that moment was reduced and recharge by that element of sweetness and so, an idea is easily solved.

title: Week 1; Part 1

time:2:14 AM
Task for the week: Self Introduction & Create your personal DCC Blog Site!
Week1
Part 1:

a) Draw an image that represents you -- or the many different parts of yourself, along with some memorable info, words or images to help me remember you. The image can be abstract and symbolic, rather than a literal representation of you.

b) Draw another image that shows where you are now (in your life). What you've achieved up to this point, and your plans for the future, issues, failures, triumphs, etc.

The images above should be self-contained and contain symbolic interpretations where needed (it may be clear to you, but not necessarily so for me). The (b) image can be integrated into the previous one in (a).

(a)Basically, this drawing has many parts of me in it. The different personalities and sentences which i would love to say but never did. There are a few certain drawings which are characters that I have drawn previously and would occasionally draw unknowingly,

For example the crocodile located in the near left. coloured in black & green, to express how colours have no restriction and how colour doesn't have to make sense to match.
And the same goes for the hot air balloon, which is coloured in a colourful way.
By simply looking at it, just enlightens the picture and surrounding. Which connects to my character, as I am someone who loves to dream and wishes for something more.
Which is part of human nature, as everyone is never satisfied with what they have and in greed, they expect something more. In a way, it is actually a good thing. As It encourages people to keep moving forward and to strive and never give up.
But in another way, people whom are never satisfied with what they have, will never be happy with life at all. Although, i maybe one of those person whom wishes for something more, something special but on the same time, i feel really contented, blessed and loved to be a part of my family and having friends that I have. I hope by looking at this picture would allow those to experience what I am, i have and what i am expressing.

(b)The character located in the middle where a man is carrying a huge massive cookie and still smiling is one of the best examples to represent where I am in life right now. In life, i know I have alot to learn and many to achieve, but i am positive i would definitely overcome the obstacles to come and future obstacles ahead of me. With a strong heart and positive mind, which explains why the man is still smiling even having to hold up high the heavy cookie.

c) Draw/Write your responses to the following, as you answer these questions:
i) What is Imagination/Creativity? (Please provide your own definition, write down as much as you know about these terms. How do they relate to design? Has your conception of creativity changed since coming into SD?

Defining Imagination & Creativity isn't hard but similarly, not easy to explain, as it changes with the flow of our mind as it grows. Imagination is a gift that was given to us since born, it's a talent everyone has. And it has no restrictions, it is something people can't control. It kinds of lives, within everyone of us. Imagination and Creativity comes in a pair, a couple. It serves for the same reason to design for something.may it be a graphic poster, a church architecture or even a concept for a car design. But to design we need a plan or scheme followed by a mental image to formed, and here is where imagination steps in.

Imagination is a kind of formation of a mental image of something that is neither perceived as real nor present to the senses. It has the ability to confront and deal with reality by using the creative power of the mind; resourcefulness. And so a imagination is need to process before a design is produced.

My concept of Creativity, would be unique, special, originality and expressive.
And that was what i thought previously before i entered SD.
Although, my mind has matured and opened in a brand new way. But i still must agree that creativity must still consist the above points but i learned that traditional designs can be a part of creativity. And it lives in our everyday life. Creativity doesn't have to limit to just Art but they exist in our everyday life. For example, creativity can be used to design a fan structure, laptop accessories and even the laptop functions or programming. And the concept of creativity, changes as we grow. If you have realise we live in a world filled with Creativity & Imagination, it just goes to show that we are living around them perfectly as humans are the best creative animals.

ii) Do you think you are creative? Why/Not? Please explain in more detail (reflect on your creative process in Sem 1 while going through the Common Foundation courses) to answer this.
Yes! Honestly, everyone is creative in their own way. And i don't think anyone isn't creative, looking at our lifestyle and the way we live. I believe so. For example, a man working day and night and having not enough time to sleep can even think of a way to manage his time and even have time to eat his breakfast by thinking creativity a fast way to wash up and dress quickly within 15 minutes. Or another example, a office lady with the same problem, not having enough time still can manage time to look professional by make up. And so i believe that every single one of us has the ability and skills to be creative, even by living in the world of limitation.

iii) What were the last 3 creative things you did? Describe in some detail, and provide criteria why it was creative. If you have not done anything creative recently, please say more about why that is so.
- Thinking of afew certain ways to design my own typeface.
- Thinking of ways to cook my dinner in a fashionable and delicious tasty way.
- Thinking of how to design my place for a Halloween party.

Although, 2 of those points may not be related to this module or course. But to me, Creative/Creativity consist in many ways. It doesn't only have to be restricted to ART but to design everything and anything.

iv) Do you think Creativity can be taught/and learned? Why/Not?
Like what i have explained previously, Creativity lives among us.
It has adapt in out life. For certain people, creativity can not be learned but at the same time it does. By gaining experience or by practice.

v) What is your general gameplan for improving your Creativity? Please explain some possible goals and directions you have in mind. How can this class help you specifically.
By gaining more experience, like hands-on work and first hand experience.
My main problem would be a little lack of confidence and a teaspoon of indecisive.
And so I plan to keep moving forward and no matter how hard the obstacles may be, i hope to overcome it and learn from it. Instead of fearing it or avoiding it, as by doing so improvement isn't possible. I hope that this module and course can educate me more, nurture me into a experience creativity designer with confidence in hand, i believe nothing is impossible!!

to be continued..
